Kinky Curly Castor Oil Challenge and Biotin Challenge

August 3rd, 2014 Posted 7:00 PM

Hey HHJ loves thanks for tuning in again this post is about two new challenges I will be partaking in for three months and I will be tracking my progress every week. My first challenge will be the castor oil challenge which Ms Kinky Curly Coily will be doing for three months I’ll post the link below for yall to sign up. I will be using JBCO and applying it 3x a week to my hair and do pre poo and hot oil treatments with it. I am experiencing a bit of breakage IDK why maybe my hair has too much protein in it so I just twisted it up and let it be. My Bantu Knots did not come out the way I wanted it I will be doing the over soon when I get myself some curly pudding I think that will be a good edition. Here’s the link to check it out and register.http://kinkycurlycoilyme.com/castor-oil-challenge-fall-2014-registration/ Also another challenge I will be doing is my own personal challenge of taking Biotin I have never taken Biotin before and I have done enough research I’m just a little afraid that it will break me out and my skin care regimen has been going really well. So I will be starting the Biotin and Castor Oil same time tracking my progress and everything. That means more pictures with dates and everything on them. So I hope you will join me and Kinky Curl Coily in this challenge castor oil has huge benefits to your hair and why not. Hope this helped someone!! and JOIN US!!!!

Wash Day

July 31st, 2014 Posted 7:54 PM

Hey HHJ loves I hope all is going well and we are making progress in our relaxed/natural hair journies. Well today is wash day for me as you know I wash every two weeks now.

  • So I pre pooed with Organics Hair Mayonaise for about two hours while I was watching videos on YouTube
  • Then I washed my hair with a neutralizing shampoo cuz my fair felt a little build uppy
  • Then I did a black tea rinse because I noticed a bit of shedding and then I put my Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Repair Cream on and deep conditioned with that for a few hours while I watched is Heaven For Real.
  • Rinsed it out in the shower and detangled just tried this today IDK how I feel bout doing my hair in the shower.
  • Now I’m air drying my hair to about 80-90% as I’m gonna try doing some bantu knots

My thoughts though umm when I detangled my hair I noticed quite a bit of shed hair more than I’m used to let’s hope this goes away or I will discontinue using the Black Tea rinse as this is the only new thing I’ve incorporated into my wash days in awhile. Will post Bantu Knot steps and take down results on Saturday when I do. Have a great night everyone oh this is totally unrelated but go and see Dawn of the Planet of the Apes MANNNEE I love that movie.

Big Sister Duties Part One

July 28th, 2014 Posted 10:57 PM

So this new set of blog posts under this this tag will be me taking care of my little sister Melissa’s hair she has 4a/b natural hair really fine i love her hair so much so this will be what I do to her hair and I will be tracking her progress as I do mine I’m trying to teach her that she can love her natural hair and it can grow as long as everyone else’s she sees on YouTube and online. So today was wash day se went to the beach yesterday so she had to get her hair washed.

  • So first I pre pooed her hair with some extra virgin coconut oil for a few hours I usually do it over night but she was so tired last night when she got home she’s 12 btw ten yrs my younger and let her watch tv and alla tht.
  • I rinsed out the coconut oil and I washed her hair with shampoo twice. And then it was time to DC.
  • For the DC i put coconut oil on her hair again and then I put on Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Repair Cream and wraped her hair up in a shower cap and let her roam about again.
  • After a few hours I rinsed out her hair and then I dired it I applied coconut oil again IKR her hair just loves loves loves the stuff  more than mine no matter how much I put in her hair her hair just drinks up the stuff and thrives off it. I blow dried her hair and then she was good to go. She’s off to bed now sleeping with her head wrapped up

In subsequent posts to follow I will be showing pictures she loves taking pics more than me so you will see more of her hair. She’s going to high school in a few months and I’m just really trying to get her to love all of herself including her hair so she will not have low self esteem like many girls and do some really cool protective styles for her and we can go on our hair journeys together, her natural me relaxed and hopefully she will encourage me to make a Youtube Channel. Untill next time HHJ loves remember to smile back at a child when they smile at you it makes them see that there’s hope in the world.

Oils: New and Old

July 27th, 2014 Posted 4:12 PM

Hey HHJ loves I hope all is going well, this post is really about oils I recently found a place in Jamaica that sells some really cheap oils both carrier and essential oils and I’m excited to go there and try some. Now my dilemma is this I wanna try so much oils I already know that I love castor oil love love love love the stuff. I love coconut oil I use it and a mixture of olive oil and castor oil to oil my scalp and I have tried jojoba oil but it was the one from ORS and contains mineral oil and alla that stuff so I’m excited to try the all natural version. Now I have been researching down the place I have been watching youtube videos everything to find out which oils are the best and the ones I wanna try. Now what I wanna do is use each oil one at a time to determine if my hair likes it or not and not just make this big concoction like everyone else does and then not know what wat does. So what I have decided to do is buy JBCO as I really love the stuff like love love love it and my old bottle is finished. I have coconut oil for days I bought this big one that I keep in my fridge and I have not even halfed it as yet not even quarter. So the oils I wanna try is I wanna get some more EVOO as it is almost out. So I wanna get some JBCO, EVOO, Avocado Oil I researched a great deal on it and I like what I have found hopefully my hair likes it, Grapeseed Oil and Vitamin E oil. I also wanna get some Aloe Vera and some vegetable glycerin. Now what I decided to do is just oil my hair with JBCO to get that thickness out there and I will make a mixture of all the oils and use it to seal my hair. And then to determine the benefits of each oil to my hair is to use them differently when I’m pre pooing/ doing hot oil treatments each time I wash my hair to determine if my hair likes it or not.  Here is just a little info I found on the net about the oils I am currently trying or going to try. I am realy not gonna try any essential oils as yet like Tea Tree oil or Lavender or Eucalyptus I’ll try that later on in my hair journey I just need to find out which oils I love first.

  • Avocado Oil – Avocado oil is a sweet and nutty oil that has a thick consistency and green color. It is full of vitamins that your hair loves like vitamins A, E, D and potassium. It is said to be nourishing to hair and is great for sealing moisture into our hair or as an additive to any conditioner for an extra boost.  oils and you will definitely feel and see the difference.
  • Jojoba Oil – Jojoba oil is a golden yellow medium consistency oil that has a light and pleasant scent. Jojoba is one of the only oils that can penetrate the scalp and hair shaft and can be used to add moisture to your hair and scalp. Jojoba is very identical to sebum – the natural oil that lubricates our skin and hair, and can be applied as sebum replacement for individuals with dry scalp issues. It can also be used on people with oily scalp to eliminate excess sebum and accumulation from the hair.
  • Olive Oil – Olive oil is a thick green or golden-yellow oil that has a distinct olive smell. Extra virgin olive oil is preferred for hair use, since it is cold pressed and does not contain any chemicals. Olive oil can be used to treat dandruff, tame frizzy hair, add shine, increase manageability, and soften hair.
  • Coconut Oil – Coconut oil is a fragrant oil that is solid at room temperature and liquid when heated. Coconut oil is one of the best oils for hair since it can be used in many different ways. It can be used to treat hair loss and dandruff, mend split ends, condition hair, helps retain moisture, and helps to reduce protein loss in hair.
  • Castor Oil – Castor oil is an extremely thick vegetable oil that is colorless to very pale yellow liquid with mild or no odor. It nourishes hair and helps to seal moisture, softens, and visibly thickens hair. Castor oil is also said to stimulate growth, so many naturals use it to regrow problem areas such as bald spots or their hairline by doing scalp massages.

What I’ve learnt so far!

July 25th, 2014 Posted 11:13 PM

Good Night HHJ loves I hope all is going well. I was featured again on www.blackhairinformation.com for their weekly blog round up I just love them so much and commend them as even though some people might say that they mostly focus on natural hair I really learnt a whole lot from them so big up to them ova desso love them!!! So this post is really about a few things I have learnt on my hair journey thus far not even being a yr in as yet and my hair is really thriving I’m gonna start taking some pics and documenting my progress. One of the main things I would like to point out is this you can’t expect your hair to grow over night. I was really thinking that OK if I start my hair regimen wash my hair deep condition and all of that my hair would reach waist length in a few months. WRONG it takes time and patience and most of the hair gurus on youtube and on the hair blogs have been on their hair journey for over 3 yrs and counting and they have beautiful flowing hair that we all want and can’t have as yet.

  • One of the first things I’ve learnt is that you aren’t going to drop all your bad habits at once. For example if you used to use a fine tooth comb all your life it’s gonna take a while to start using the wide tooth comb permanently. It’s gonna take a while to start reading the ingredients list on the moisturizer or shampoo or any other product bottles to ensure that there is nothing harsh like mineral oils or bad alcohols going into your hair IT ALL TAKES TIME.
  • Another thing I’ve learnt is that what may be good for your hair may not be good for another persons hair. Everyone’s hair is different like your finger prints and you can get recommendations from persons around you and person on youtube and the web but at the end of the day what your hair might love another persons hair might hate. So all you gotta do is just trial and error that’s all I have been doing. Also some products that may have worked for you in the past might not work for you any more for one reason or the other. It could be that it was never really working before and because you are filled with more knowledge of your hair now then you realize it never really worked in the first place or may be the company changed the ingredients or a plethora of reasons.
  • SUBSCRIBE SUBSCRIBE SUBSCRIBE and GOOGLE GOOGLE GOOGLE and PINTEREST PINTEREST PINTEREST- you can find a lot of information on your hair by just sitting and watching youtube. You can find hairstyles, product reviews, giveaways and so much more by just sitting on the net and trying to find stuff out about your hair. And you don’t have to just subscribe to a particular set of hair type what I mean by this is not because your natural means you only follow natural people and vice versa mix it. I subscribe to both natural and relaxed people on youtube and follow their blogs because there are just some hair care tips that are universal. And sometimes a natural may use a particular product and you say hey let me try it and you end up loving it. So mix it up the web is full of information just waiting to be tapped.
  • I know there are some lines out there now since the natural hair movement that say they are specifically designed for natural hair. Don’t be scared to try a natural hair care line they may really have some good stuff there like their co washes and curling pudding for bantu knots. Just make sure when you’re trying it you do as much research as possible to ensure that it will not be too heavy or light for your hair.
  • Finally ( I have learnt many more stuff that will follow in subsequent posts) when in doubt retain your length. Meaning if your stuck at say shoulder length and you’re doing everything you possible can do low manipulation styles, protective styling, GHE etc and you still don’t see your hair moving and you just can’t figure it out don’t stop moisturizing and sealing and babying those ends don’t give up keep that length cuz hair does grow JUST DON”T GIVE UP!!

Hope my post helped out somebody today comment if you have any questions. 🙂

Relaxer Update

July 17th, 2014 Posted 11:14 PM

Hell HHJ loves I hope all is going well and everyone is keeping safe and praying for all the madness that has been going on in the world lately. Well I just finished relaxing my hair after 11 weeks of my last relaxer I wanted to go longer but bla I just missed my hair too much. So everything looks ok I haven’t done a length check I just feel like my hair is in the same place it has always been so I’m a little sad right now but I gotta keep working on it hopefully it gets better. I will probably do one more relaxer for this yr and that’s for my birthday and them I’m done I really wanna do a big stretch like a 6 month stretch but baby steps baby steps. That’s all for now I will give more details in a later post. I followed all the instructions from the last relaxer update I did, one thing I noticed though was a bit of shedding not too much so nest time I wash I’ll do a black tea rinse or green tea not a fan of black tea any more because it changed the colour of my hair. Anyway tootles.

Co wash and decision

July 11th, 2014 Posted 1:52 PM

Hi HHJ loves I hope all is peachy so as you all know my last post I said I was gonna do jumbo twists in my hair but my edges have really not gone back to how I want them and that picture of Naomi Campbell with traction alopecia has been really haunting me. So im gonna take a break from protective styling till my edges are back to their luscious state. So I just co washed my hair and now im deep conditioning a new way that I saw Kendra from the glamtwinz334 do which she co washed her hair and then put EVOO her deep conditioner and then more EVOO to seal it all in. So I’m currently in the process of doing that and seeing as I’m 11 weeks post which is the furthest so far I’ve ever stretched I’m doing a protein deep conditioning treatment to strengthen my hair. Whooo im telling you this stretching thing ain’t no joke. I maybe get a relaxer next week or the week after im going to the salon I need a trim so hopefully too much isn’t taken off really excited to see my progress thus far and after this relaxer I will definately not be relaxing again till the week before my birthday. I will not be air drying my hair I will be roller setting and drying my hair under my hooded drier. The reason im not going to air dry is cuz it does make my ahair too thick and right now cuz im stretching I dont want anymore thickness than it already has cuz im being driven insane. P.S I’m currently deep conditioning while I’m talking to y’all need to make sure all the new growth is saturated. Feel free to ask me any questions 🙂

Stretching Regimen

July 7th, 2014 Posted 11:48 PM

Hey HHJ loves I hope your hair journeys are going better than mine. As you know I’m stretching I decided to not relax any time soon I’ve made up my mind and the next protective style I will be doing is havana twists with marley braids not too chunky just the right size for my lil head lol. Now I don’t really like braids I get tired of them really easily like two weeks in but I’m so envious when I see girls rocking them in JA with al kinds of accessories so I guess that’s what I’m gonna do just try to accessorize. Well so far I haven’t really been doing much to my hair as I;ve been home taking it easy so all I do is moisturize at night with my Cantu Shea Butter Leave In and seal with my coco-castor oil mixture. Umm I know i said I used the Beautiful Textures Moisture Butter but it hasn’t been working for me all that well since I pulled out my last protective style I still have it on my dresser my mommy and lil sister uses it so I guess my hair has gotten tired of it already. I’m not sure when I will be putting in my twists as I said in my last post about my protective styling take down my edges thinned out more than usual so I’m trying to get those back on the right track before I add anymore stress to them with my twists. But I’m excited to do my twists this is a summer of new adventures for me. Initially one of my summer goals was to put in a sew in but I’d have to relax my hair cuz I personally hate seeing people with human hair sew ins and jacked up edges and I would go crazy if I did that to myself. So maybe I’ll do my sew in in December and just gwaan cut and go thru with my protective styles. Not sure how long I’m gonna keep it in though maybe 2 months ha ha ha I’ve never kept a style in for that long but I’m a try my best best best and stretch as long as I can my one yr hairaversary is in November and I would like some progress when i get there. Happy HHJ everyone!

Protective Style Take Down

July 4th, 2014 Posted 10:06 AM

Hello HHJ loves I hope all is going well! My exams are finally over Thank God so as promised I’m going to up date the blog more and put pics and start having categorized stuff. Ok so I finally took out my protective style it took me forver cuz I wanted to make sure I take my time and make sure I finger de tangled and didn’t lose too much hair growth. Well the progress I really don’t know is cause when my hair needs to be relaxed it curls up really really up and I can’t see the length till I relax. So I’ll post the pics soon seeing as I don’t plan to relax anytime soon. Well I basically am just gonna tell you guys what I did and then I’m giving my hair a break or two in this time I will up my co washing I wanna do a deep conditioner challenge which is deep condition every week for like 3 months which is gonna be hard because I don’t like washing my hair often I do it twice a month as you know and will probably add a co wash one of the in between weeks. But may be I will do the challenge after I relax seeing as my hair will be easier to manage then and my new growth is driving my crazy.

  • First I took down my protective style while watching videos on youtube took a million hours went to bed the next morning. As I said I took my time because the last time I did a protective style I lost a lot of hair because I was rushing and left the hair knotted and then they got matted when I washed them.
  • So after my lengthy de tangling process I separated my hair into for big sections and applied coconut oil. Ever since I got my coconut oil I always said I was gonna pre poo with it but this is my first time doing it not sure how I like it as yet will continue doing it.
  • After prepooing put on a plastic bag on my head and went to sleep.
  • Washed it the next day with my vo5 shampoo and then deep conditioned with my Cantu Shea Butter leave in for about two hours. After I rinsed it out I let my hair air dry yeah I have gone onto the air dry wagon now and my hair really dried fast Jamaica is super super hot.
  • I then let my mommy flat iron my hair this was a special occasion as my little sister graduation so proud and my hair is back to normal.
  • What I did notice is that my hair lie thinned out a little bit not quite a lot this has happened for the first time but what I’m gonna do is just apply some castor oil around my hairline and twice a day until it comes back to its lushus goodness.
  • Oh I moisturised and sealed with Beautiful textures Rapid deep conditioner cuz it doubles as a leave in and sealed with EVOO.

So that’s all I did and my hair is ok  feeling a little depressed that it might not be growing as rapidly as I want it but patients oh I will not be doing any more protective styles till my hair line comes back.

Itching to Relax

June 29th, 2014 Posted 2:28 PM

Hey HHJ loves I hope all is well I know I haven’t been on this thing in a minute school has been crazy. Now this is just a short little post saying I have had in my protective style that I posted  a few weeks back for about three weeks to a month now and I MISS MY HAIR I REALLY DO LIKE A LOT BUT me a cut and go thru with love in a me heart. I just did my mommy’s hair yesterday and it looks so nice and I got so envious and I really wanna do my hair. As you know I want to keep in my protective style till my birthday in October and relax then but I don’t know if I can make it. My will power with my hair is very small and limited and I do want what’s best for my hair so I’m gonna try and keep it going. My next protective style that I wanna do is sengalese twists I really love them but Jamaica is so HOT I wonder if I can get my hair to that length and not go crazy. But this was just a little up date on how my progress is going so far I am going to spend all my summer in a protective style. I am kind of tired of this one now even tho I love it but I’m gonna see how long I can last. Happy HHJ everyone and if there’s anyone out there with any encouraging words to make me not relax my hair please do share.
