How starting my hair journey made me start taking better care of my body!

Hey HHJ loves I hope all is going well this blog post is as the title says how when I started my hair journey made me start taking better care of my body. When you start your hair journey you do a lot of reading and researching and very rarely do you find that you can just take care of your hair and not take care of the rest of your body, because what you put in your body is what will come out in your hair and skin. Now! lol I haven’t turned a vegan nor anything the only thing I probably haven’t done is start to eat better I’m working on that. Now I have started drinking my recommended amount of water even more than the normal, I never used to understand how they expected us to 6-8 glasses of water everyday mane did I hate that and I would go days on end without drinking more than a glass of water a day. But now after reading an article that drinking enough water after your body finishes with all the water you consume the extra that’s left over will go to your hair and skin after using up what it needed for the vital organs and the rest of the body. Now drinking water with the benefit of it making my hair healthier is nothing to me now. Another thing I’ve noticed that after starting my hair journey is that I started taking better care of my skin mainly my face. I’ve had acne for as long as I could remember but I just couldn’t keep it under control no matter what I did. Being on my hair journey I thought I cant have long, gorgeous healthy hair and have a jacked up face. So along with doing research for my hair along came research for my face and I found out about African Black Soap which is doing wonders for my face wonders!!! And then being on a hair blog made me find out that coconut oil is really good for the face then I gave it a whirl as I had a good amount left over that I haven’t even touched because I bought it for my hair and now my face is under control even when its near that time of the month those pesky pimples stay away. So all this hair journey stuff does lead you to different aspects of your life and body you research things that lead you to something else and you’re not just on a hair journey you’re on a body journey making sure your body is healthy so that your hair can be healthy from the inside out and you try to make sure your face is also on track. And you also realise that you’re drinking so much water that your body is doing really well and your keeping healthy. The next thing which I’m taking in strides is that I need to start taking some multivitamins I think I found the one I want with everything instead of taking two to three pills a day. But that’s about it I hope your hair journey is taking you places just the way my own has and I do have to say that my hair, skin and body looks and feels better 🙂

Hey HHJ loves so so so so so so sorry for being MIA for awhile after being done with university yay me!!! I got me a very hectic job in the field I love well an internship now my hair journey has been going on very well I’m proud of myself seeing as my one year anniversary is coming up really soon and I’m thinking about starting my own Youtube channel. Now I know everyone might be saying she hates taking pictures so how will she be able to deal with videos right??? Right but what I figure is I sit down a few times a week for a few mins and talk about my hair everyone can see my hair instead of taking pictures all the time. Now I have reached armpit length however I went to the hairdresser and she clipped up my ends and I’m back to neck length. But it’s good to see that your regimen is working that all this research and watching countless videos on youtube and buying hair products on top of hair products are really working out. I have been doing my Kinky Coily Curly Castor Oil challenge oiling my scalp with my castor oil three times a week or more depends on how I feel. I am freshly relaxed, I relaxed my hair for my birthday October 2!!! turned 22 whoot and I am going to take pictures and upload everything that I did on that day and putting up my routine for my relaxed hair which is different from when I’m stretching my hair. I had stretched my hair for 3 months before that and I am planning not to relax my hair for the rest of the year and trying to stretch my hair to four months and then try to go up to six months just because I really want to try it out and see how my hair will react to it. But I don’t think I will turn it into a habit I have got the three month stretching pat and I am gonna stick to it. I hope everyone is having a good one and the craziness of the world isn’t getting to everyone. I will try and find all my hair pictures and try and add the year and everything not only to share my progress with my fellow Jamaicans to let them know that our hair can grow long and it doesn’t have to be sewn in or we don’t have to be mixed it can be done with patience and consistency. Another thing I know when I posted my challenges that I am going to do there was supposed to be a biotin challenge.

Now the reason I haven’t tried biotin is that I am still doing research this is because I have just got my face under control after reading a blog post about using coconut oil on your face at night as a moisturiser and man am I telling you my face has been behaving itself lately and my face is even glowing I love it. But I have been reading online with people that Biotin broke them out and it took them forever to get back on track I really don’t want to upset the balance of my face just for a little quicker hair growth my hair has been doing really great lately. But I’m gonna be watching some videos on youtube to see what other vloggers are saying and then weight my mind. I hope everything is going well pictures will be coming soon. 🙂

Wash Day: Flexi Nods

September 13th, 2014 Posted 9:00 PM

Hey loves hope everything is going well, sorry for being MIA my laptop has been in the shop for over a week and now it’s back to normal and I’m happy and grateful now I can continue my research and everything. Also I have started an internship so that is occupying my time now well most of it. I finally understand now how a lot of persons on their hair journey can keep their hair one way for the entire week because when you’re dealing with that new growth girl and it’s being a drama queen and you have X amount of time to get ready you just finger de-tangle and go thru the door. Now about my title I tried flexi rods my last wash day and I watched a lot of videos even went out and got me a holding pudding called Dark and Lovely Au Naturale 10in1 gelee styler I read bad reviews about it btw. However here are the things I did to my hair my last wash day I think I’m going to do one more wash tomorrow going to the hairdresser and get my ends trimmed.

  1. Pre Pooed with my coconut oil. Divided my hair in four sections and applied my oil twisted my hair up and then I put on a plastic bag and my shower cap and went to bed.
  2. I washed my hair twice with my vo5 shampoo and condtioner.
  3. I deep conditioned my hair first I applied my mixture of oils which includes coconut, grapeseed, olive oil and castor oil and then I applied my Elasta QP deep conditioner and wrapped up my hair with saran wrap, a plastic bag and a plastic shower cap and I sat and watched tv for two hours.
  4. I washed out my hair and started doig my flexi rods, i applied my leave in, my oil and then the gelee i applied too too much and I sat under the dryer a lil bit and then let the rest of it air dry.

Now what I learnt my last wash day I realize that I can’t deep condition with my mixture of oils it just doesn’t work well with my deep conditioner so I need to just have a bottle of olive oil and use it when I’m gonna deep condition my hair cuz that makes my hair work best. Another thing I learned is that when you’re doing flexi rods you have to use a little of holding product a little goes a long way and you have to stay under the dryer until the hair is fully dried to get the effect you want plus I need more rods to get the type of curls I’m looking for the 28 I have aren’t enough for my hair. So I really hope that this helps someone I’m gonna try doing my flexi rods again after I relax my hair I’m trying to leave my new growth alone as much as possible got two more weeks to go and I will be 3 months post yay I’m slowly but surely trying to stretch at least 6 months one day soon but after I relax my hair for my birthday I won’t do it again for the rest of the year. So that’s all lovies I hope your wash days went good and you didn’t miss me too much another wash day post will be coming tomorrow and pictures. Have a good night!

Yesterday while on my lunch break from work I got them really cheap $180 JM for a pack I bought 3 of the orange packs I’m gonna use them for the first time my next wash day I’m gonna see if I can get myself either some Eco styler gel or curly pudding so I can have really defined curls. I have wanted flexi rods for the longest while even before I started my hair journey and watching hair tutorials on Youtube. So next wash day the look will be flexi rods I will surely be taking pics of the process for everyone to see and not punk out if they don’t turn out good like my bantu knots did. I’m currently searching for a good curly pudding. So see you next wash day guys!! I’m so excited!!

Wash Day!

August 24th, 2014 Posted 2:23 PM

Hey HHJ loves today is wash day as you know I wash my hair every two weeks plus I had a little hair haul yesterday bought some new hair products and I found out that products in Jamaica especially natural hair oils are expensive so I am currently looking for new ways to purchase oils I might probably try buying them online and then get them shipped here or just bite the bullet and use them. I have currently bought Motions Oil Moisturizer, Grapeseed Oil and Elasta QP DPR -11+ deep penetrating remoisturizing conditioner. So wash day now. I will be doing a review on these products soon.

  • First I pre pooed overnight with my oil mix which consists of  coconut oil and castor oil and maybe a lil EVOO im not sure. Divided my hair in four sections lathered it up with the oil covered with a plastic bag and put on my shower cap and went to sleep.
  • I woke up and rinsed out my pre poo and washed my hair twice with my vo5 shampoo and then put in my conditioner rinsed it out and then moving on to deep conditioning time.
  • After I rinsed out my conditioner I added EVOO to my hair I love doing this before any deep conditioner makes the hair really soft and locks in the moisture then I applied the Elasta QP deep conditioner and I’m telling you this thing is really thick so it will last very long and I love when my deep conditioners are very thick and then I put on my saran wrap, a plastic cap and my shower cap and sat for 2 hours catching up on the Legend of Korra and mane did I miss  a lot she doesn’t seem to be as powerful as Aang was tho.
  • Anyways I rinsed out the deep conditioner and then I blow dried I’m going on the road later I think maybe maybe not.
  • So now I’m gonna moisturize and seal my hair and then wrap it up.

Hope everyone enjoyed their wash day as I did reviews are coming soon be good lovies.

The Storm is Over!!! Finally!!!!

Hey HHJ loves I hope all is well, hope everyone is doing good there has been a lot of bad news lately mane I’m praying for the world I have no idea what’s going on but let’s just pray for everyone who needs it and RIP to Michael Brown and Robin Williams and everyone else who has passed away. This news is to update everyone on my protein overload fight and I am proud and glad to say that I have combated it and the storm is over and my hair is back to normal. Now what I have been doing is moisturizing, moisturizing, moisturizing and it has been working so much. I have been using the LCO method on my hair for the past few days and it has put back the moisture in my hair. Now the liquid I use is I took a little spray bottle from my mommy and put some water in it and some EVOO and shook it up and I spray that on to my hair liberally, then I moisturize with my Beautiful Textures Moister Butter Whipped Curl Creme and then sealed with EVOO again. Now I don’t normally use the LCO method unless I’m stretching and my hair feels really really dry but I had to take drastic measures to combat this protein overload and Thank the Lord I have got it underwraps. I couldn’t stand my hair breaking off so much that’s not good for someone who is trying to be on a HHJ. Now going through that I’m a little afraid of protein to go in my hair I really don’t want this to happen to me again so the only proteins I’m going to keep in my hair regimen right now is Coconut Oil and my Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Repair Cream I just love the stuff and I won’t let it go so when I figure something out I will let you guys know about my updated regimen because I am going to add some more new products and try out a sulfate free shampoo or a moisturizing shampoo. I saw this review by Ashley from thehappyhairshow and she did a review on the motions line shampoo, DC everything so I’m gonna give it a try and see how my hair likes it. After I moisturize and seal my hair I put them into four big twists to let the water dry out of my hair, cross wrap it and put on my satin scarf or bonnet and I’m good!! So recapping if you have protein overload get rid of everything protein in your hair regimen don’t throw it away just stop using it on your hair until you get back to the moisture protein balance that’s good for your hair. And then after you get back on track look over your regimen and find ways to add back protein in your hair so you don’t go through protein overload again. Hope this helped someone, I’m thinking about getting layers but I don’t wanna cut my hair but layers look really nice and I love to let my hair down and I hate that it looks so flat and layers will give it volume and dimension in which I want so hopefully I’ll give it a try 🙂

Hey lovies I co washed my hair today with Vo5 Coconut thingy and I deep conditioned with EVOO for about 2 hrs and then I rinsed it out and roller set my hair and sat under the dryer. I wrapped my hair up and I’m still trying to get my hair back to normal with my moisture protein balance. The good thing is its slowly but surely going back to normal but I still hate combing thru my hair and seeing so much of my strands but I’m still on that moisture mission. Now the next thing I’m gonna do is clarify my hair not this week coming the other week, gonna keep the manipulation down to a minimum and I have put up my coconut oil all together and I’m just using my jojoba and my EVOO and I’m going to get myself a good deep conditioner this weekend and I’m gonna clarify my hair. Now I’m hanging in there you know I’m thinking bot doing a protective style to just kinda keep my hair all up and away and all I would do is just get some vegetable glycerin and make myself a mist and just hope for the best. Still trying to figure out how I’m gonna start incorporating protein back into my hair cuz I’m so afraid now to put protein in my hair as my hair really needs it so that’s about it. I’m staying motivated every setback is a major comeback so let’s hope I stop this very soon and my hair will be back to normal. Hope this helped comment if you have any questions.

Protein Overload…….Tears

August 7th, 2014 Posted 10:45 PM

Hey HHj loves this is my second post of the day and it’s not as fired up as my one earlier this morning this one is about breakage. I am experiencing severe well not so severe breakage I mean I have never had so much breakage since I started my hair journey and have become well versed into how to take care of my hair. So now I am sharing my experience with you guys and some links will be down below of the blogs and sites and Youtube channels I visited to help me figure out what’s wrong and what to do to fix it. I have realized that I have protein overload now this got me thinking about revamping my hair regimen, looking at my products, and everything. Now I have figured out the problem. Recently I got a relaxer and before that I was using Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Repair Cream (medium protein) to moisturize and deep condition my hair as I haven’t gotten a chance to go to my local beauty supply store to get a new one but I’m going soon as I can its an emergency. Secondly I was was moisturizing and pre pooing with Coconut Oil (protein) and it just had a little bit of castor oil mixed in it. So if ya’ll haven’t figured it out as yet I have protein overload and YES GIRL!!!!!!! it’s the hardest thing to cure I have only heard of it a few times on some Youtube videos that this is the hardest thing to cure and mane am I experiencing it. What I am doing now to get my moisture protein balance back on track I have stopped moisturizing with my Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Repair Cream and will go back to using my Beautiful Textures Moisture Butter and sealing with my coconut oil. By the time I have my next wash day which will be next Sunday I will have new products and new oils so I can prolly deep condition with a new moisturizing DC one wash day and the next with my Cantu. Now I will not be throwing out my Cantu Shea Butter I love love love love this stuff and I will repurchase I just normally used it as a regular leave in and that’s that but my stash got so empty while I was studying for my last big exam and I forgot but never again. I have been moisturizing and sealing and doing GHE every other night till my hair gets back to normal. Hope this helped somebody and comment if there’s any questions. Also there will be an update on my hair after it recovers hopefully soon I can’t cry anymore. Have a good night loves.

Love Your Hair Regardless

August 7th, 2014 Posted 9:19 AM

Good Morning HHJ loves this post comes to you from some things I’ve been reading online in the past few days about natural girls who decided that they wanted to relax THEIR HAIR and some of them being bashed and attacked and even losing some of their subscribers on YouTube just because they relaxed their hair. I read one article on blackhairinformation.com and just read another one a minute a go on black girl with long hair site. Here’s the linkhttp://blackgirllonghair.com/2014/08/cant-win-natural-hair-vloggers-face-backlash-for-both-big-chopping-and-relaxing/. Now this is my opinion I think and recently learnt that hair can be beautiful and healthy no matter what, long, short, RELAXED OR NATURAL. Now being a relaxed girl and loving my relaxed hair sometimes I really hate seeing when persons go natural they say ” OHHHH YES CHILE GET RID OF THE CREAMY CRACK” Now I have never in my life hated on someone who decided to go natural and I don’t think someone who has decided to relax their hair should lose their subscribers nor be questioned on why they did it. When my favourite relaxed hair girls go natural you don’t hear me saying oh god why, it’s their choice. Jen from http://www.justgrowalready.com/ decided to go natural and I am ok with her decision it’s her hair and I have no say in what she does and I will still be stalking her page like I do everyday and night and I will still be using some of her tips to help grow and love my relaxed hair. This post is just about a relaxed girl who got tired of reading about naturalistias being bashed when they decide to join the relaxed hair community. It’s all a mind set if you think your relaxed hair can’t be beautiful then it won’t and vice versa. I’m loving me my relaxed hair just like a million other relaxedistas and IDK id I’ll ever go natural but that won’t stop me from adopting  a lot of techniques and ideas from the natural hair care community and furthermore I don’t think we should be divided I think it should just be a general hair community and not a natural hair community located one place and then a relaxed hair community located somewhere else. We are not noticing the trend that we are setting dividing our younger generation to be divided by our hair and bash our fellow sistas for relaxing their hair. And my last point is this many persons equate relaxed hair is something to show that you don’t love yourself or some other negative stuff people say in order to make themselves feel better. I LOVE MY RELAXED HAIR AND I’M STICKING WITH IT AND I LOVE IT TOO MUCH!!! Just my opinion.

August 5th, 2014 Posted 9:07 PM

Hey HHJ Loves this is just gonna be a little teaser on what’s coming new to the blog. Now of course as ya’ll can see I have changed my theme I never really liked the first one that I had and it never really supported a menu setting and I really want my blog to be up to par with the other blogs and websites I’ve been stalking since before I started my hair journey so now you guys have a menu setting to just take you directly to where ya’ll wanna go. Now one of the categories that has been there since I started my blog is a category called inspirations.

Now what this category really will be doing is showcasing different persons hair gurus or not and their channels that I watch and really telling you guys why I really like them I have a number of reason for liking the persons I have chosen both naturals and relaxed heads and sometimes I just love their personalities. So that’s coming up I will try my very hardest to do one a week and I will share a link to their blog/ you tube page. The first set of inspirations will be the persons that really made me decide that I’m gonna go on theri hair journey and if they can do it why can’t I. So I’ll work on the first one tonight and try to get it out to ya’ll soon hope you like it I’m trying make this blog as interesting as possible TTYL. Don’t forget to moisturize and seal and put that satin bonet on!
