Protective Styling Challenge 2015

January 12th, 2015 Posted 9:17 PM

Hey HHJ loves I hope all is going well and the new yr is going as smooth as it should be. Well I’m currently in a protective style Marley Braids and I love it because my hair was just driving me crazy and I was at the point wear I was getting tired of it and I just love it and I will keep it in for a little over two months and I will be uploading my regimen used to take care of my hair while it is in braids I will try and wash my while in braids I’m not really a fan of doing it but I will try it. After I take down my protective style I will give it a break for about a week or two and then back in braids and I will be doing that until about October when it’s time for my birthday again and will see how my progress is going but so far so good I am about 4 or 5 weeks post relaxer now and the thicker and longer my hair got it got harder to deal with and I was just needing a break from my hair so here’s what I went thru to prep my hair for my Marley braids;

  1. Clarified my hair with Suave Clarifying Shampoo because I wanted my hair to be squeak clean there has been a lot of product build up and I can’t tell when last I clarified my hair so I did it and got a squeaky clean feeling but it wasn’t too stripping. This is the first time I’ve used a clarifying shampoo I always use warm water and baking soda and that does the trick.
  2. Next I conditioned my hair for a little bit and then I put in Coconut Milk in my hair as my deep conditioner it was a little runny though so that’s a precaution but it was totally worth it I wanted to do a protein treatment but I’ve been wanting to try coconut milk for a while and I did it and I loved it my hair came out soft and shiny and I know I will be using it more often and my hair will get better as I work it into my regular hair regimen.
  3. I left the coconut milk deep conditioner on my hair for about 2 hrs and then I rinsed it out and added my Cantu Shea Butter Leave In and sealed with my oil mix and blow dried my hair because I wanted my hair and my roots to be straight for when I installed my braids I have a lot of new growth a lot. My hair is a little tight and my tender not so bad as to make me pull it out.

These are the things I will be doing to my hair while it is in the protective style;

  1. I will be oiling my scalp with my castor oil 3x a week
  2. I will be moisturising my hair with either a mixture of water and some oil or my Creme of Nature Leave In 3x a week also and I will be tieing up my hair at night and I will be trying to keep my hair as free and moisturized as possible and if I get too much product build up I will be trying out other methods of cleansing methods for my scalp.

Hope everyone has a good day and will continue having good hair days pics will be coming soon I’m waiting on my friend who did my hair to send me the pictures.

P.S. I used four marley braids in my hair and I think this was a good thing tht my protective stlying came up I need to refresh my hair products so I will continue buying them and stacking them up.

Bye Bye 2014….. Hello 2015

December 31st, 2014 Posted 11:24 AM

Helo HHJ loves so this post is a round up of my favourite things I’ve done during 2014 that my hair has loved loved loved and will continue to love and some stuff that I will be trying in 2015 I really hope this helps someone out there on their HHJ I have been on my hair journey for a little over a year and my progress has been tremendous and I am just looking forward to what the new year will bring so here goes;

  1. Pre Pooing with coconut oil vs using a conditioner- during the yr when I just started my I pre pooed all the time with a quickie conditioner but then I discovered pre pooing with coconut oil and it has become a staple in my regimen ever since and I love all the progress my hair has made since starting it a few months back.
  2. Deep conditioning overnight- I know some people say deep conditioning for more than 3 hrs makes no sense but if my hair is feeling really really down in the dumps and dry like the Sahara Desert I deep condition over night and I just add it in between my washes I still wash my hair every two weeks and in between my washes my hair has really made progress with deep conditioning in between and over night
  3. Castor Oil- after doing the Kinky Curly Coily Me castor oil challenge for three months I have made it a habit and I have incorporated it into my hair care regimen and even though I havent been really a part of the challenge in a minute I have kept on doing it three times a week and massaging my scalp and I have not turned back since.
  4. Grapeseed Oil- Good ole grapeseed oil I love love love it I have found it from doing research online and I bought it and I have never turned back since I haven’t used it alone and I have mixed it with other oils and the benefit is still there for me for the new year I will be using it strictly alone and I will put aside my other oils to see the benefits.
  5. Elasta QP deep conditioner I loooovvee this deep conditioner and I have found it randomly by looking for a new deep conditioner and I am happy I found it and it will definitely be my staple deep conditioner in my regimen I will try new deep conditioners however I will always have it in my regimen and I will always fall back on it whenever I need my hair to feel like butter.
  6. Co washing- Co washing is really good when I just started my HHJ I never really appreciated co washing I tried it a few times and it has helped when I am doing my relaxer stretches in which I think I have become a pro at right now
  7. And last but certainly not least relaxer stretching the months i have stretched is 3 months and like 2 weeks I wanna take it further in the new yr but it has really helped me see progress becuz my hair shrinks when I’m stretching and then when I relax I see the growth and see where my hard work goes and I love it

Now here are a few things I will be trying for the new year I have a number of things I want to try but these are the things at the top of my list right now;

  1. I wanna try incorporating coconut milk as my deep conditioner so I will definitely try it  and see whats going on for that I will only do it once a month so I will not get protein overload I don’t think I can manage to go thru that again.
  2. I wanna try sulfate free shampoos I have never tried a sulfate free shampoo but I will definately get one and see if there is a major difference in both shampoos and how my hair will react to it.
  3. I wanna try taking my biotin on a regular basis now lol I take it probably once a week but my work life has gotten more hectic so I really wanna try and take care of my hair extra in case I get too busy my hair won’t suffer too much.
  4. Protective styling I really wanna vamp up being in protective styles for majority of the year and I will try and stretch my relaxer as much as possible to really go from armpit length further down and see how far I can get to my 2 yr mark.

Double Post

December 20th, 2014 Posted 9:12 PM

Hey HHJ loves I hope all is well and I haven’t lost any of my few subscribers for being so busy trying to learn as much as possible on my new job and getting ready for the holidays. During the time of being missing I have still kept up with my hair regimen nothing much has really changed i have done a relaxer three weeks a go and I did a wash day and a protein treatment before that so this post will be about my relaxer and my recent wash day and my progress and anything new I can seem to remember that I’m doing to my hair.

So my relaxer is this;

  1. I prepped my hair by oiling my new growth and scalp with just some random hair oil there was a special occasion coming up why I wanted to relax my hair i dnt remember why but i did and then my mommy did my hair with Mega Growth Profectiv relaxer normal strength and I left it in my hair for about twenty mins and I rinsed it out with my neutralizing shampoo.
  2. After shampooing two times I put in my Organics Hair Mayonnaise as my protein to help re strengthen my hair after the relaxer process and left that in my hair for about 45 mins to an hour.
  3. After that I rinsed it out and added my Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Conditioner which i am looovvviinngg as an all round product and left it in my hair de tangled and rinsed out my hair.
  4. I then added my Cantu Shea Butter leave in and sealed with my mixture of oils that i always post about and preceded to blow dry my hair on medium heat and noticed that my hair has reached arm pit length and was so full of body and full of life and even tho my hair was not bone straight it wasn’t as textured as i always leaving it and i then oiled my scalp with my castor oil and massaged it in a little bit wrapped up my hair and went to bed.

During the two weeks of being newly relaxed I did my usual stuff I moisturised and sealed with my herbal essences moisture mix this is the one without glycerine I have one with glycerine that I will use in the warmer months even tho I’m in Jamaica the time has gotten significantly cooler. And I still add castor oil to my scalp three times a week and massaged it. i have started taking my biotin trying to do it every day but I am still afraid of break outs. I either seal with my oil mix or I have started to seal with just coconut oil  and I don’t wrap my hair every night I have stopped too much breakage i just put my hair in a loose top knot and put on my satin scarf and I am ok.

Wash Day (2 weeks)

  1. Pre pooed my hair with coconut oil this is really my go to pre poo even though I have researched numerous different recipes I am just in love with coconut oil and I covered my hair in saran wrap and a plastic bag and a shower cap and I went to bed I do this for all pre poo and deep conditioning sessions so if I say I have deep conditioned I do that or pre pooed.
  2. the next morning I washed out my pre poo and i rinsed twice with my v05 shampoo and added my deep conditioner mix. I bought a deep conditioner pack it was a strengthening masque it says hydrating deep hair conditioner and in my dye container I added it and some of my herbal essences conditioner and some castor oil and coconut oil and added it to my hair and let that sit for three hours not because i think it will be soaked in more it was because I was watching Christmas movies and just couldn’t be bothered to get up.
  3. Oh i forgot to say that I rinsed my hair with peppermint tea before I added my deep conditioner I haven’t really seen any difference in my hair like I would see if I did a black tea rinse but I will probably try again and take special attention to my hair to see if I should add it to my hair I did buy green tea today to try on my next wash day so we will see.
  4. After rinsing out my deep conditioner I added my leave in sealed with coconut oil and blow dried my hair and wrapped it up and I went to my bed.

My hair progress is going really well so far my hair is much thicker and I have always had thick hair sometimes I argue with my hair when it refuses to detangle but then I am so proud of myself for not getting tired if for some months you don’t see progress but just patience is key. I will do a photo book soon look for all my hair photos and try and do a time line for my hair.

My Current Hair Products.

  1. Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Conditioner
  2. Hello Hydration Conditioner  moisture mix (moisturise my hair with it every other day)
  3. Oil Combo mix (coconut oil, grapseed oil, castor oil, evoo0
  4. Coconut Oil
  5. Cantu Shea Butter Leave In
  6. V05 Shampoo and Conditioner (any one I have on hand it doesn’t matter to me really I am not a sulfate free type a girl)

Products I would like to try

  1. I really want to try a sulfate free shampoo I have read reviews on Creme of Nature so i will try that soon since my shampoo is finished and their liquid leave in too
  2. Also in the near future I would like to try some shea moisture products their deep conditioners specifically but they are expensive here so I will try and budget for those.

Current hair tip randoms

  1. Drinking lots of water I drink a whole lot of water mostly when I’m at home so I can use the bathroom as much as possible.
  2. Taking biotin I’m not sure if it is helping but I’m giving it a whirl
  3. Trying something new every wash day to see what my hair likes and what it doesn’t like and so far my hair is loving a lot of things.
  4. Massage my scalp every chance I get whether I oil it with castor oil or not especially my edges which is growing very well in my opinion they’re not just baby hairs now they are actually growing to be full hairs.
  5. Join challenges to create hair habits my joining several challenges over the past yr has made me stick to most of my hair habits now like my castor oil challenge now oiling my scalp with castor oil is a great part of my hair regimen now and I have just added castor oil to my hair and not moisturised and sealed.
  6. Don’t think you know everything sometimes keeping abreast of what is happening in the hair care world will make you revisit a tip or technique that you used to do and worked for your hair you have forgotten about it.
  7. Don’t be afraid to try new things and if they fail it’s okay your hair will recover from it and you will learn something new.

Until next time HHJ loves I hope this post was enough and if I don’t post before the holidays I wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS 2015 WHEN IT COMES AND ALL OUR HAIR CARE AND OTHER DREAMS ARE REALIZED 🙂

Wash Day!

November 16th, 2014 Posted 3:58 PM

Hey HHJ loves I know I have been missing for awhile but I have been really busy but things have been going really good I am taking my Biotin not regularly but I have been taking it every other day because it kind a broke me out a little bit but I have been upping my water intake and I have been trying to give it my all but I’d rather clear skin than faster hair growth my hair will grow with my practices but there will be a review on my Biotin when I’m done with it. Well here’s my wash day steps.

  1. First I prepooed my hair with coconut oil I mean I slathered everything on oil was just running down me everywhere I wrapped up my hair with a plastic bag and a saran wrap and I went to my bed.
  2. When I got up I washed out my hair once with my vo5 shampoo and put my vo5 conditioner in my hair for five mins and then i did my black tea rinse in which i prepared the night before I started back doing it because i have realized my hair has started shedding a little more than I like so I did it i used about two tea bags poured it on my hair and then I applied my DC which is my Elasta QP 11+ I absolutely love love it and I covered up my hair with saran wrap, foil paper, plastic bag and my shower cap. Yes child!!!! had to be done because Jamaica is a little cooler than normal because the Christmas time is coming along which I love and it was well wrapped up you could feel the steam coming off my hair when I pulled it out to wash it.
  3. After i rinsed my hair out i applied my Cantu Shea Butter Leave In sealed with my coconut, grapeseed, castor, olive oil mix and blow dried my hair. I know I have been on the air drying train for awhile but when my hair is air dried I cant manage it being about 7 weeks post and I know that may not seem like much but that regular applying of my castor oil has made my hair super thick and it is hell to de tangle but a part of the goal is to have thicker hair but be careful what you ask for and here I am.
  4. After I finished blow dried my hair I moisturized and sealed my hair with my Herbal Essences moisturizer mix w/o glycerin which dried out my hair so I had to make another mix and oil my scalp with my castor oil and my hair is in two mini buns now.

I am happy with my wash day I haven’t done a length check I will when I get my next relaxer which will be next year around February or March and I will be doing protective styles till then i will do a sew in for the holidays and then I will do box braids when I pull out my sew in and I will do a length check and immediately post the results I’m loving my journey thus far and I am hoping you are also.

There are my products for my usual wash day or hair care day. The black spray bottle holds my Herbal Essences moisture mix that I use to moisturise my hair everyday, my Cantu Shea Butter Leave in, my wide tooth comb, my blow dryer. the first applicator bottle contains my oil mix that I use to seal my hair right after I moisturise and the second bottle is my castor oil.

I am going to start sealing only with a majority of grapeseed oil now just trying to mix it up my current mix is mostly coconut oil.

Wash Day!!

November 2nd, 2014 Posted 7:58 PM

Hey HHJ loves I hope all is going well in all aspects of your lives well today was my wash day my hair is shedding a little more than I would like now and I was doing some research on garlic to help stop the shedding but there was no garlic powder at my house and I just couldn’t be bothered to to use real garlic but I need to find some non wash day methods to use to limit the shedding. But maybe I’m over reacting so her goes;

  1. I pre pooed my hair overnight with my Hello Hydration Herbal Essences Conditioner loovveee it and mixed it with coconut oil and castor oil.
  2. I woke up and washed my hair with my vo5 conditioner and then I DC with my African Pride Mayonnaise because I haven’t had a protein treament in a good while.
  3. I then air dried my hair it took forever and then I moisturized and sealed my hair and I have it in two lil mini buns now and that’s about it nothing to report other than that.

So far so good I will flat iron my hair later on this week but so far I’m doing good I need to start my protective styling challenge soon because I’m tired of my hair as is and I don’t wanna cut it all off.

Hello Hydration!!!

October 22nd, 2014 Posted 9:44 PM

GoodNight HHJ loves this is just a quick post about my new purchase I finally finally finally bought my Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Conditioner been wanting it ever since I started my hair journey but I never got around to buying it so I finally bought it today. It’s the big bottle one I’ll insert a picture down below when I’m done. So I will be doing a review on it but from first instance it smells like heaven! It’s a steal because it’s huuggee and will last me a very long time and it has multiple uses I love products that have more than one uses. So I’ve been researching on Youtube and persons use it as a moisturizer that I am currently trying out now I’ll give my full review because as you know I use my Cantu Shea Butter Leave In as my moisturizer but Miss prettywitty77 uses her mixture for her daily moisturizer and I’m gonna follow her tip she has never failed me yet. So that’s it I made a mixture just some of the conditioner and  a little water tomorrow I may add some glycerin but I am afraid of using glycerin I don’t want to incorporate too much new things in my hair journey too quick but it’s on the list of things to try. I need some more JBCO thought I need to find the 8oz one but so far all the beauty supply stores around me only have 4 oz but that’s too little I like buying my products in bulk so I don’t have to be going to the beauty supply store too often trying to keep away from the drugs lol hair products I mean. So look out for my review on this product and if it works as well as everyone else says! Have a good night everyone 🙂

Updated Hair Regimen

October 20th, 2014 Posted 10:04 PM

Howdy HHJ loves hope all is going well this post is about my current hair regimen I just read the other one I had up and it has changed immensely I love having a blog it’s my very own hair diary and I get to help others in the process. S/O to those following my blog I really love you guys for following my blog you guys keep me inspired. So my current regimen is this.

  • I pre poo with my oil combo as you guys already know before every wash unless I’m just deep conditioning on dry hair or doing a co wash. I wash my hair every two weeks and when I’m stretching I still keep that timetable of washing my hair every 2 weeks I just co wash in between so my new growth doesn’t get the best of me. So when I reach about 7 weeks post I add co washing and D/C on dry hair to my regimen.
  • I air dry my hair or roller set it really depends on whether or not I can be bothered with my hooded dryer in my life.
  • I moisturize and seal my hair every night with Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Repair Creme and seal with my oil combo and I oil my scalp with castor oil every 2-3 days. I finger comb and lightly detangle every time I moisturize and seal. The reason I do this is because I tried waiting till wash day to detangle my hair and mane oh mane oh mane did my hair give me hell to detangle. I try not to manipulate my hair as much but I also try not to keep too much shed hair.
  • Randoms I massage my scalp every chance I get, I try to add new things to my hair once in awhile when my curiosity gets the best of me.
  • Heat- I do use my flat iron every now and again I was never addicted to using heat so it’s not hard to stay away from heat. I use my hooded drier whenever I don’t feel like air drying my hair and I use my blow dryer whenever but I’m not heat obsessed and I don’t think heat affects my hair because if I do use it I keep my hair wrapped so it stays straight.

I think I have covered everything oh I do D/C with heat sometimes or I just let my body heat do the job. That’s all for now I am planning on going on a little mini protective styling challenge from about November to about February what I’m trying to figure out is this I really don’t like washing my hair in braids I just really don’t so I’m just trying to figure out how to keep my scalp clean and healthy w/o washing it till before I take it out but I’m looking at some havana twists for the rest of the year and then some other style till February when I decide to relax again or maybe I’ll stretch till March. So i’ll track my progress this time a before and after picture to see if long term protective styling works for me.

TLH: Tender Loving Hair Care!

October 17th, 2014 Posted 1:08 AM

Good Night HHJ loves I hope the hair journey is going well remember PATIENCE IS KEY!! This patience thing is getting to me well the Lord works in mysterious ways. Anyways this post is about my wash day experience that I did today which included a hot oil treatment which felt really good. I know some of you might be saying whhhaaatt she never did a hot oil treatment before!!! Well I have done them but I have never actually warmed the oil  I just put the oil on my hair and then made my body warm up the oil. My hair and my scalp loves me for it and I will be adding it to my routine but I will be doing it once a month or every other month on my special days when I add something new or try something new to let my hair know I still love her hurry and grow LOL!

  1. So the first thing I did was boil some water in a saucepan for a few minutes and then placed my applicator bottle which consists of my oil combo that I use to oil my scalp at times and mostly seal my ends which has been really helping me out lately and I will definitely try a different combo when this one is finished. My oil combo is coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil and grape seed oil. I really love grape seed oil as it makes your hair feel really really smooth and nice but I’ll do a review on it in a subsequent post and I think my next oil combo will be majority grape seed oil or I will use it only as my sealant but mane is grapeseed oil expensive in Jamaica. Anyways sorry for the rambling warmed up the oil combo a little bit and then tested it on my wrist to make sure it wasn’t too hot the temperature was just fine.
  2. After warming the oil I applied it to my hair and scalp generously made sure every inch and scalp felt warmed and then I massaged my hair scalp for a little bit and it felt good! I then wrapped my hair up placed saran wrap over it and my shower cap and headed off to my bed.
  3. After waking up I still waited a little bit and then I rinsed out the oil and shampooed my hair with my vo5 Anti Breakage Shampoo once and applied my vo5 conditioner and let it sit a few minutes and rinsed it out. Applying your rinse out conditioner is a very important step to your wash day routine ladies most times we forget to add the quick conditioner to the routine because we’re like oh I’m going to DC for a few hours why add it? Well in my experience I find adding it really helps with the detangling process of your hair especially if your DC doesn’t offer much slip.
  4. I then added my DC which I loooovvveee oh my god I will do a review on it pretty soon but it is the Elasta QP DPR 11+ with olive oil and just a little tip it works extra good when you add olive oil right before you add the DC and your hair will feel more like butter. Anyways I added the DC wrapped up my hair in saran wrap, plastic bag and my shower cap for a few hours and sat and watched tv with my little sister.
  5. After a few hours DC I detangled my hair with my wide tooth comb and rinsed out my hair and I proceeded to air dry. I haven’t air dried my hair in awhile but I just missed how my hair felt the little curls that formed at my roots plus my mommy wasn’t home to set my hair so I could go under my hooded dryer.

My hair took a few hours to dry then I proceeded to oil my scalp with castor oil and moisturized and sealed my hair with my Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Repair Creme and my oil combo. My hair is doing fine making progress I am loving every minute with my hair and I hope you are too.

That’s where my hair currently is its about an inch or less away from my armpit I can’t wait for it to get there 🙂
